Michael Jackson's former physician,
Dr. Conrad Murray, entered a plea of not guilty

Michael Jackson's former physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, entered a plea of not guilty in a Los Angeles court Tuesday as he prepares to stand trial for involuntary manslaughter.

Murray is accused of administering a lethal dose of a powerful anesthetic, Propofol, that killed Jackson in June of 2009 at age 50. Murray, who was the personal physician for the King of Pop, could face up to four years in prison and lose his medical license, if convicted.

His trial date was set for March 28.

Murray's lawyers claim that Jackson actually gave himself the last dose of Propofol and that Murray had been trying to wean Jackson off the anesthetic.

Judge Michael Pastor ordered Murray to stand trial after a six-day preliminary hearing during which most of the evidence against Murray was already revealed.

Prosecutors from the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office called more than 20 witnesses including Jackson's bodyguards, an ex-girlfriend of Murray's, the Los Angeles County Coroner and doctors from the UCLA Medical Center where Jackson was taken by paramedics.

A few hours before the hearing, a dead body, believed to be that of a homeless person, was found outside the courthouse by officials doing a sweep of the grounds.

What is Propofol?
